Fredericksburg Academy, the leading independent school in the Fredericksburg region, is seeking a full-time Middle and Upper School Science Teacher beginning in August of 2026. Candidates should have a passion for supporting students to reach their full potential as students and citizens, a demonstrated desire for professional growth and a willingness to participate fully in the life of the school. Fredericksburg Academy provides students with the opportunity to prepare themselves for and apply to college in a demanding yet supportive environment while becoming independent learners within our challenging college-prep curriculum. The science portion covers a year each of Physical, Life, and Earth Science for grades 6-8, and for Upper School, an Integrated Science foundation followed by a variety of elective science offerings including four Advanced Placement courses. The current instructional opening includes teaching Earth Science and alternating years of Environmental Science and Physical Science but is subject to change. Academy students bring a laptop or tablet to school each day, so technological proficiency and demonstrated use of technology within the learning environment is preferred. Additional responsibilities include serving as a Middle School advisor to approximately 8 to 10 students and supporting co-curricular activities, preferably through coaching one of our athletic teams at the Middle School or Varsity level or advising other student-led clubs.

- Display enthusiasm for teaching and professional growth
- Serve as a member of the Science department; attend meetings, and support the work of the department
- Demonstrate a passion for working with middle and upper school students and an understanding of the varying unique developmental needs at each grade level
- Provide strong, timely, and effective communication (both written and oral) with students and parents, colleagues and administrators
- Willingness to collaborate within and across departments and divisions
- Supports the school and its mission
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education or similar area of study
- Demonstrated success in classroom teaching or similar field of work
