The New Community School is currently hiring an Upper School Math Teacherfor the 2025-2026 school year.
This teacher will teach small classes of Upper School students in a supportive, professional environment.
Job Description:
The position of Upper School Math Teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment to develop competencies in mathematical skills and an understanding of the structure of mathematics; and to motivate each pupil to apply mathematical understanding and skills in the solution of practical problems.
Essential Duties:
Teaches content and skills in mathematics.
Adapts subject matter material and methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
Plans individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of each student.
Utilizes standards-based assessment to determine students’ mastery of learning objectives.
Implements evidence-based teaching and learning practices and designs a full range of meaningful assessments in which students are regularly asked to demonstrate understanding.
Utilizes multi-sensory strategies to support student learning.
Integrates a range of resources, including technology, to engage, enhance and extend learning goals.
Understands the role of social, emotional and physical wellbeing in the teaching and learning process and encourages the development of lifelong healthy behavior problems.
Encourages students to think independently and express ideas.
Contributes to the rich student life program.
Serves as the faculty advisor to a small group of students.
Facilitates ongoing communication with parents regarding student progress, including formal written reports in accordance with the school calendar.
Participates in the school’s extensive pre-service/in-service training and mentoring program.
Contributes to the rich Upper School student life program.
Contributes to other aspects of the school including after school activities
Performs other supervisory duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: The ideal candidate:
Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
Must be eligible or possess Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with appropriate endorsement to teach Math.
Must possess a strong interest or experience in learning disabilities.
Must utilize a variety of instructional strategies including multi-sensory strategies to facilitate student learning.
Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and the broader community.
Must possess a desire and willingness to grow professionally and work as part of a team.
Salary Information Salary is commensurate with experience.
