Position Description:
Burgundy seeks a full-time interim music teacher for Lower and Middle School. Qualified applicants will have musical training, successful experience teaching elementary and/or middle school-aged children, and experience teaching choral music, as well as demonstrate proficiency playing the piano. Applicants with a broad range of musical skills and experience are desired. There are opportunities to teach private after-school instrumental or voice lessons. The music teacher reports directly to the Assistant Head of School.
The qualified candidate will have:
Genuine love of learning and desire to work with children as a facilitator of learning
A degree with a major in Elementary Education, Music Education or a related field
Collaborative spirit, interest in team-teaching and creating a joyful learning environment
Good oral and written communication skills
Strong classroom management skills
A belief that all learning begins with attending to children’s developmental, social, and emotional needs
Commitment to teaching diverse learning styles and differentiated instruction
Interest in outdoor, hands-on, and environmental education
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Teach music, design and modify curriculum as needed, and demonstrate thorough planning
Organize and help lead musical performances; collaborate with our drama department on musical shows
Teach choral music for our Middle School students who are focused on singing
Maintain an emphasis on preparing students for the joys and challenges of learning
Participate in curriculum development, committee, and task force work
Perform necessary administrative tasks and attend required meetings and events
Engage in reflective practice and various professional growth activities
Hours
Arrive by 8:00 a.m., depart after 3:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, except Wednesday, when faculty meetings begin at 2:45 p.m. and end at 4:00 or 5:00pm.
The School is closed for most national holidays, as well as Winter and Spring Break.
Salary and Benefits
Salaries are based on a competitive independent school scale with increases for advanced degrees and experience; $2000 step increase for Master’s degree.
Health, dental, vision, life insurance, and long-term disability are offered to all full-time employees. The School will contribute to each full-time employee’s benefits, who work a minimum 75%, via a cost share model.
A Retirement plan with TIAA, with an initial 3% match and then 6% match by the school after two years, irrespective of employee contribution, is offered to full-time employees.
A tuition benefit (1/2 discount) is offered for one qualified child attending Burgundy to full-time employees only. (Faculty and staff children are also eligible for additional financial aid.)
