The Langley School, a Preschool-8 independent school in McLean, Virginia, seeks a dynamic, collaborative, experienced, child-centered educator to serve as Associate Head of Lower School beginning in August 2023.

At Langley, we promote curiosity, empathy, and ingenuity through a clearly articulated curricular model rooted in Inquiry-Based Learning and Social-Emotional Learning. Associate division heads at Langley collaborate closely with division heads and other senior leaders around curricular programming, instruction, and operations; they work closely with students and families and contribute significantly toward achieving the goals outlined in the school's strategic plan. The associate head of lower school position is an 11-month position and reports directly to the head of lower school.

Requirements:
Successful instructional leadership including curriculum development and implementation experience

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong ability to perform these core responsibilities:
Coordinate and collaborate with the division head on all division matters including child safety; curriculum planning. implementation, and evaluation; instruction and pedagogy; instructional coaching; professional development; collection, measurement, and analysis of student performance data; hiring and onboarding new faculty; and in all ways fostering a learning environment that is inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive within and across divisions
Assume primary responsibility for division operations and personnel in the absence of the division head
Work with the division head to establish, evaluate, implement and maintain appropriate ethical, behavioral, and restorative guidelines for students in the division
Develop and assist in the execution of a comprehensive plan for student life that complements the school’s curriculum and philosophy--including class trips, assemblies, and service opportunities
Assist with conducting regular meetings with division faculty, dealing both with routine school matters and strategic/philosophical issues relevant to the work of the division
Maintain a highly-visible presence within the school community
Collaborate with the director of social-emotional learning to support implementation of Langley’s SEL program within the division
Create and nurture a culture of reflective practice, collaboration, feedback, and professional growth and renewal
