Oakwood School is a private school in Annandale, VA for bright students with learning differences in grades 1st-8th. Classrooms are designed around a team-teaching model with two teachers assigned to 12 students in a homeroom. Students are broken into small groups for math, reading, and written language. The team-teaching model requires good communication and professional collaboration skills to provide the best educational experience for our students.
Applicants should be prepared to work with students with processing challenges, dysgraphia, dyslexia, and attentional issues. A basic understanding of working with students using multi-sensory teaching methods and supporting diverse learning styles is required.
Required Qualifications:
- A Virginia Teaching License, or eligibility for a VA Teaching License is required.
- Undergraduate degree from accredited education program and/or teaching experience in middle school classroom.
Preferred Qualifications:
- VA Teaching License with endorsement in Special Education, Learning Disabilities, or a related field.
- Orton-Gillingham training and/or certification.
