Tandem Friends School, a co-ed, Quaker, 5th-12th grade independent day school in Charlottesville, Virginia, seeks an experienced Middle School Math teacher for the 2023-24 school year.
Next year’s teaching responsibilities involve working primarily with 5th and 6th grade students but will also include a section of 7th or 8th grade math. At TFS, all teachers are active community members who share in the general support and care of the school community, serve as student advisors, chaperone overnight trips, and participate in a wide range of community activities.

Several year’s experience working with middle school students
A strong understanding of the developmental needs of early adolescents
Competence and comfort with teaching a wide range of students in regard to age and ability
Instructional approaches that reflect equitable and inclusive classroom strategies
A diverse range of skills and knowledge and a willingness to learn new things
A self-awareness in regard to one’s own strengths and areas for growth and an approach to others characterized by empathy and generosity of spirit
Enthusiasm for Quaker values, including principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice and Belonging
An appreciation for collaboration with students and colleagues
Prior experience working with neurodivergent learners
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree, ideally with a concentration in mathematics or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred but not required.
