BACKGROUND:
Southampton Academy, located in Courtland, Virginia, is a coeducational independent day school enrolling 380 students preschool three through grade 12. The vision of SA is to be the premier independent school in the region, educating the whole student—cognitively, socially, and emotionally—to prepare them for a rapidly changing world and their own personal future.
OPPORTUNITY:
THIS POSITION IS OPEN FOR THE 2023-2024 ACADEMIC YEAR.
The Academy is seeking qualified candidates for the position of upper school math instructor. Candidates should have a comfort level teaching Algebra II, Math Analysis (advanced Algebra II), and Precalculus. The position may be negotiated to be full-time or part-time dependent upon the expertise and availability of the candidate. If full-time, responsibilities may also include Statistics and/or Math Lab (math extra help course). Classroom sizes range from 4-8 students. The instructor will also serve as adviser to a group of upper school students and sponsor one extra-curricular activity (i.e. Mathletes, MathCounts, Robotics Club, etc.). The ideal candidate will be interested in working with students with a variety of learning styles in a rural independent school setting and willing to provide extra help to assist with comprehension and mastery. Preference will also be given to candidates able to coach a sport, especially cross-country, basketball, or soccer.
REQUIREMENTS:
While previous teaching experience is preferred, the Academy will consider candidates interested in moving into the teaching profession from other related industries (engineering, health care, etc.) or new teachers, provided candidates are open to strong mentoring and support.
Southampton Academy's mission is to challenge and encourage each student to learn and grow through academic experiences that combine innovation and tradition with moral and spiritual values in a supportive family environment. Enrolling 350 students in grade three-year-old kindergarten through twelfth grade, the school draws from two states and four counties. Rural schools, like SA, act as cohesive neighborhoods for their expansive community.
