Strelitz International Academy (SIA), a thriving Jewish day school serving 320 children from infancy to Grade 5 and located in Virginia Beach, VA, is seeking a new Head of School to begin in July 2027. 

As the only school serving the area including Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake that offers the prestigious IB® program elementary school curriculum, SIA combines the benefits of a close-knit independent elementary school with the global perspective of the International Baccalaureate®. Students at SIA are immersed in an inquiry-based, internationally recognized program that fosters academic excellence, critical thinking, and cultural awareness. Every classroom is designed to nurture both intellectual growth and personal development.

SIA was founded as Hebrew Academy of Tidewater in 1955.  After beginning to pursue IB accreditation in 2019, the school was renamed as Strelitz International Academy. This new marketing enhanced the school’s brand, and today the SIA is in a strong position to continue building on the growth it has enjoyed in the past seven years.  In 2024, SIA also earned full accreditation from the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS). 

Heather Moore, who has served as Head of School for the past ten years, has announced her plans to retire at the end of the 2026-27 academic year, marking a total of thirty years of dedicated service to the SIA community.  The next Head will be expected to further the mission and continue the development of this wonderful school.  Candidates will need to demonstrate that they possess the expertise, empathy, and energy to ensure that Strelitz International Academy remains a special place for many years to come.
