Powhatan is seeking an experienced 5th-grade teacher for its Upper School.  The successful candidate will have a background in elementary education, a specific interest in working with upper elementary and middle school-aged children, strong instructional knowledge, effective classroom management skills, experience in curriculum design and student assessment, and the ability to integrate technology to enhance instruction and learning.  We encourage dynamic teaching, emphasizing critical thinking skills balanced with traditional instruction.  Additional responsibilities include serving as a homeroom teacher, accompanying students on field trips, maintaining regular communication with families, participating in faculty meetings, and performing various duties, including lunch and recess supervision, several times a week.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in  Elementary Education or related field. A master's degree is preferred but not required.
• Experience teaching math and science is a plus.
