St. Michael’s Episcopal School in Richmond, VA, seeks a passionate and dynamic Physical Education Teacher and Coach for the 2025-26 school year. This full-time position serves grades K-8, playing a vital role in promoting students' physical well-being, athletic development, and lifelong fitness through engaging, student-centered instruction. This ten-month position begins in July.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced educator and coach with expertise in multiple sports, a strong understanding of fitness and health principles, and a commitment to fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and a love for movement.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Instruction
Design and deliver engaging, age-appropriate Physical Education lessons that promote active participation, goal setting, and a lifelong commitment to health and wellness. This includes a family life unit, grades 5-8.
Educate students on the importance of physical fitness, nutrition, mental well-being, and healthy lifestyle choices.
Lead and supervise both indoor and outdoor PE activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Create, plan, and teach a middle school elective course in each term.
Coaching & Athletics
Coach multiple sports at the middle and upper-elementary levels, helping student-athletes develop skills, confidence, and teamwork. Stipend paid per season.
Provide training and mentorship, encouraging sportsmanship, leadership, and perseverance.
Foster a love for athletics by motivating students to explore new sports and athletic pursuits.
Ensure athletes compete at an appropriate level while prioritizing injury prevention and overall well-being.
Additional Responsibilities
Supervise student clubs, class trips (including potential overnight trips), and daily carpool, break, and lunch duties.
Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills when engaging with students, colleagues, and families.
Uphold and enforce school policies and collaborate with school leadership to adapt and refine instructional programs as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned in alignment with the school’s mission and community values.
Work cooperatively with colleagues on a consistent basis
Demonstrate kindness, enthusiasm, a sense of humor, investment in continued learning and professional growth, and a passion for supporting children as they grow and learn
Work actively to cultivate an inclusive environment and support a school community grounded in empathy, social responsibility, and an appreciation and respect for individual differences
Employ effective classroom management skills
Lead the creation of a Wellness Day for our 6th-8th grade students
Remain up to date on CPR and MAT certifications
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field
Minimum of three years of teaching experience in physical education.
Proven experience coaching multiple sports and working with student-athletes in both competitive and developmental settings.
Strong understanding of physical fitness, exercise science, injury prevention, stretching techniques, nutrition, and sports recovery.
Comprehensive knowledge of the rules, strategies, and best practices for various individual and team sports.
