Position Summary:
St. Christopher’s School, the largest all-boys school in Virginia and one of the largest and oldest boys’ schools in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeks a Lower School Teaching Assistant for the 2025-2026 school year.
Serving approximately 1,000 boys in Grades JK-12 in Richmond, Virginia, St. Christopher’s is an Episcopal school committed to cultivating a community that is diverse, inclusive, and welcoming. Principal Responsibilities:
- Shows initiative and supports the lead teacher in all aspects of the classroom, including classroom management
- Supports and/or conducts small and large group instruction planned by the lead teacher. Examples include, but are not limited to the following: helps boys with art projects, reads books with and to the boys, and monitors independent centers (technology, writing, etc.)
- Assists the lead teacher in necessary daily routines, including beginning and end-of-the-day preparation. Examples include, but are not limited to the following: greets the boys and helps them to unpack, covers recess and carpool duties in conjunction with the teacher, and helps with preparing, checking, and distributing classroom materials
- Provides the lead teacher with feedback based on observations of the boys
- Supports the Enrichment teachers in the classroom during their lessons
- Attend designated faculty meetings and professional development
- Attend Lower School chapel two times a week

- Bachelor’s degree with strong academic record preferred
- Experience working with elementary-aged children
- Personal traits and communication style which nurture the growth of children
- Works cooperatively with adults and has a strong ability to multitask
- Passion and joy for working with young people and an enthusiasm for learning
- Comfort with using technology daily and a willingness to learn and navigate specific platforms
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time
- Must be able to circulate among students in a classroom setting
- Must be able to move from classroom to classroom and from building to building as assigned or required by classroom assignment and activity of the day
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally required to work in poor weather conditions such as temperature, precipitation, and wind during recess and carpool duty
