Hours:7:45am - 3:00pm Monday - Thursday; 7:45am - 2:30pm Friday, with additional hours as needed to fulfill teaching responsibilities as assigned

Position Summary:
St. Christopher’s School, the largest all-boys school in Virginia and one of the largest and oldest boys’ schools in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeks a Lower School Teaching Assistant for the 2025-2026 school year.

Principal Responsibilities:
Shows initiative and supports the lead teacher in all aspects of the classroom, including classroom management
Supports and/or conducts small and large group instruction planned by the lead teacher. Examples include, but are not limited to the following: helps boys with art projects, reads books with and to the boys, and monitors independent centers (technology, writing, etc.)
Assists the lead teacher in necessary daily routines, including beginning and end-of-the-day preparation. Examples include, but are not limited to the following: greets the boys and helps them to unpack, covers recess and carpool duties in conjunction with the teacher, and helps with preparing, checking, and distributing classroom materials
Provides the lead teacher with feedback based on observations of the boys
Supports the Enrichment teachers in the classroom during their lessons
Attend designated faculty meetings and professional development

Bachelor’s degree with strong academic record preferred
Experience working with elementary-aged children
Personal traits and communication style which nurture the growth of children
Works cooperatively with adults and has a strong ability to multitask
Passion and joy for working with young people and an enthusiasm for learning
Comfort with using technology daily and a willingness to learn and navigate specific platforms
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time
Must be able to circulate among students in a classroom setting
Must be able to move from classroom to classroom and from building to building as assigned or required by classroom assignment and activity of the day
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
Occasionally required to work in poor weather conditions such as temperature, precipitation, and wind during recess and carpool duty
