Congressional School seeks a Third Grade Teacher to team teach third grade for the 2025-2026 academic year. The Third Grade Teacher is responsible for providing an effective learning environment through planning, organizing, developing, and assessing a comprehensive instructional program for third grade students. The Third Grade Teacher is knowledgeable about the cognitive and social-emotional development of children this age and has a passion for elementary education. The Teacher will be positive, collaborative, innovative, and passionate in addition to the below duties and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops, implements, assesses and modifies, as necessary, a dynamic program for third grade students that aligns with Congressional School's mission, vision, and values
Uses a variety of methods, materials, and techniques to teach one or more subjects including mathematics, science, language arts, social studies, and history to third grade students. The ideal candidate has experience teaching writing using the Teachers College writing workshop model
Builds a safe and engaging classroom community
Organizes classroom systems and procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged and learning
Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities
Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences
Assesses students' knowledge for the purposes of refining classroom activities and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students' progress, expectations and goals
Actively seeks opportunities for professional development
Listens and responds to student and parent concerns in a responsible, constructive and resourceful manner
Integrate meaningful and appropriate use of technology within the curriculum
Actively support the school philosophy, community, and policies
Minimum 2 years of experience teaching Language Arts/Social Studies in elementary and/or early middle school grades, preferably in an independent school
Experience and/or knowledge of Responsive Classroom and its approach to social-emotional learning
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child development and educational practices
Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment and a commitment to cultural competency
Strong initiative and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
An ability to work in a joyful, collegial and collaborative environment
A sense of humor, warm personality, and growth mindset
