Miller School of Albemarle seeks an enthusiastic and knowledgeable candidate to teach Design-Build beginning in the 2025-26 school year. The ideal candidate will have experience in woodworking and familiarity with a variety of tools and techniques. Experience using computer-aided design software, such as Sketch-Up, is desirable. The candidate should demonstrate a willingness to work as a team player and take on an active role in the vibrant Miller School community. A candidate should be inspired by the mission of Miller School and embrace the opportunity to provide an experiential class that exemplifies our “mind, hands, and heart” philosophy for our students.
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience as a woodworker, either professionally or as a hobbyist, is required.
A bachelor’s degree in art, architecture, design, or a similar field is preferred.
Experience teaching the fundamentals of woodworking to developing artists, as well as the ability to support portfolio production for advanced students, is desired but not required.
Familiarity with Sketch-up or other CAD programs is desired.
A passion for working with young people, coupled with a commitment to meeting the needs of diverse learners.
Relevant athletic or cocurricular experience that will contribute meaningfully to MSA’s after-school programming.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Outside the classroom, the position includes two seasons of coaching a sport and/or leading a co-curricular activity, advising a group of 7-9 students, and serving on a supervisory duty team.
