Oakwood School has an opening for a Math Coordinator to join the academic leadership team for the 2025-2026 school year. This person will lead math curriculum development and implementation, oversee professional coaching for teaching teams, and act as the point of contact for parent inquiries regarding math and middle school. A strong candidate will have a background in special education, an understanding of language-based learning differences, and be dedicated to evidence-based multisensory instruction. The Math Coordinator at Oakwood School needs strong interpersonal skills to constructively coach and mentor teachers and foster positive relationships with parents and students.
About Oakwood School: Oakwood serves bright students in grades 1-8 with learning differences such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. Our approach centers on small class sizes, multisensory teaching, and individualized instruction. Each classroom has two teachers for 10-13 homeroom students, allowing for differentiated instruction and a collaborative work environment. With approximately 120 students, 22 classroom teachers, and a robust team of academic coaches and leaders, we are committed to fostering a supportive environment for students and staff.
Job Responsibilities
Curriculum Development & Implementation
Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the math curriculum through all grade levels.
Ensure alignment with state and national standards and Oakwood School's educational goals.
Work with grade-level teams to develop and adapt lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials that meet the diverse needs of students.
Oversee the management and ordering of materials.
Professional Development & Teacher Support
Provide ongoing professional development for math teachers focusing on best practices, instructional strategies, and innovative approaches to teaching math.
Foster collaborative relationships with teachers to mentor growth in areas of instructional weakness and provide strategies and framework for improvement.
Model instructional practices and strategies.
Student Assessment & Placement
Oversee informal and formal diagnostic assessments for individual student growth and progress.
Track and monitor student progress and manage data for internal and external reporting.
Participate in the assignment, monitoring, and adjustment of student and teacher instructional small groups.
Provide short-term instruction and/or support teaching staff in lesson planning and pacing for individual students or small groups to support differentiated instruction.
Academic Leadership Team Duties
Foster a collaborative growth-oriented culture of math and advocate for high-quality math instruction at Oakwood School.
Attend weekly collaboration meetings with teaching cohorts.
Act as the Middle School point of contact in close partnership with the current Reading and Written Language Coordinator and elementary school point of contact.
Review, complete, and track internal academic documents to be shared with external professionals.
Act as the primary point of contact for families with math inquiries or concerns.
Attend parent-teacher conferences as requested.
Assist with any of the following: Lunch Duty, Arrival/Dismissal Duty, special project days, student clubs or activities, and cover the Resource Room.
Job Qualifications: We are looking for someone with incredible communication, organization, and interpersonal skills who is comfortable working with a team of academic leaders. We are a group of educators committed to proactively working together to provide solutions to student and teacher challenges.
Required: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education, Mathematics, or related field.
Required: 5-7 years of experience teaching, coaching, or working with a K-8th grade math curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment practices.
Required: Leadership experience as a mentor, coach, or specialist, working with teaching staff.
Preferred: Ability to coach and mentor staff in effective math instruction through the geometry level.
Preferred: Experience with differentiated instruction and intervention strategies for special education students.
