The substitute teacher provides meaningful instruction for assigned classroom students, helps them learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons, and manages the classroom environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

Primary Responsibilities

• Reporting to the Academic Office at the beginning of the day and following sign-out procedures with the Academic Office at the end of the day
• Carrying out the program of study prescribed in lesson plans left by the teacher and guiding the learning process toward the achievement of goals and objectives as indicated
• Creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
• Performing duties usually required of the absent teacher such as lunchroom and hall monitoring
• Knowing the emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned
• Performing other related duties as directed by the Head of Upper School

Requirements
Qualified candidates will have:

• a commitment to Covenant’s Christian principles
• experience working with students
• a genuine caring attitude toward students
• the ability to communicate clearly and establish effective, working relationships with students, parents, teachers, and staff
• and the ability to be flexible working with various levels of students, subjects, and teaching methodologies.
• The person must also be comfortable sharing his/her faith with students. An education background is preferred.
