The substitute teacher provides meaningful instruction for assigned classroom students, helps them learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons, and manages the classroom environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
Primary Responsibilities
Reporting to the Academic Office at the beginning of the day and following sign-out procedures with the Academic Office at the end of the day
Carrying out the program of study prescribed in lesson plans left by the teacher and guiding the learning process toward the achievement of goals and objectives as indicated
Creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
Performing duties usually required of the absent teacher such as lunchroom and hall monitoring
Knowing the emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned
Performing other related duties as directed by the Head of Upper School
Requirements Qualified candidates will have:
a commitment to Covenant’s Christian principles
experience working with students
a genuine caring attitude toward students
the ability to communicate clearly and establish effective, working relationships with students, parents, teachers, and staff
and the ability to be flexible working with various levels of students, subjects, and teaching methodologies.
The person must also be comfortable sharing his/her faith with students. An education background is preferred.
