The Siena School in Oakton, VA, is seeking a Part-Time Visual Arts Teacher for the 2023-24 school year who is passionate about teaching and an advocate for children with learning differences. We are looking for a highly collaborative individual committed to meeting a range of student learning needs and interests and multisensory and differentiated instruction. Art is an integral component of the Siena curriculum, with cross-curricular collaboration occurring between teachers from the humanities to math and more. The ideal candidate should be a skilled artist with an aptitude in various mediums and demonstrate a wide array of artistic interests and experiences. The Visual Arts Teacher will work with students in grades 3-12 and continue to build a full and exciting arts program at our second campus. The successful applicant will enjoy working with other educators in a collaborative environment (such as by planning and executing exhibits and field experiences) and providing student-centered learning experiences that are engaging and differentiated to meet the needs of students with language-based learning differences.
The Art Teacher will:
Provide a range of opportunities to students across all divisions (elementary through high school)
Seek ways to be flexible with the curriculum to support students’ strengths and interests
Work closely with other teachers to develop cross-curricular connection between subject areas, grade levels, and between the two campuses
Develop opportunities for student art displays and exhibitions to occur throughout the school year
Promote the arts in our community and expand connections in northern Virginia
Work collaboratively with the performing arts faculty in the production of a fall MS play and a spring all-school musical performance (e.g. set design, costumes)
Qualifications:
Demonstrated career interest in education
Bachelor's degree in art or related field with a strong academic track record and 2-5 years of classroom experience preferred
Strong language skills and a desire to make a difference for students whose intellect is ahead of their literacy skills
Promoting joyful student engagement and a commitment to the education of dyslexic students are essential
Training or classroom experience with elementary, middle, and high school students, differentiation, and/or students with learning differences/dyslexia.
Demonstrate commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
Take pride in being part of a team that collectively works to bring together diversity of backgrounds, thoughts, perspectives, and expressions
Engage in positive cross-cultural interactions and an understanding of the nuances that exist among and between diverse groups as well as a willingness to learn, grow, and confidently work through challenges that might arise in this area
