Loudoun Country Day School (LCDS) is looking for an enthusiastic, talented educator to join our middle school as a full-time Learning Specialist and Teacher for the 2023-2024 academic year. Reporting to the Middle School Director, our new middle school learning specialist and teacher will be a collaborative and passionate educator who understands the nuances of middle school-aged children and who is skilled in designing and implementing learning support and executive skills instruction to students individually, in small groups, and in the classroom.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced and dedicated professional who is able to communicate and collaborate with students, parents/guardians, fellow classroom teachers, and school staff, and is committed to the mission and core values of LCDS.
In addition to working with middle school students who have learning differences and teaching a section of math, this qualified individual will mentor a home base (advisory group) of eight to 12 students, offer two activities, and participate in the culture and life of the school.
The learning specialist will be responsible for the following Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assess and monitor needs of neurodiverse students and determine appropriate goals and interventions
Work with the admissions team to assess admissions applicants
Provide feedback to teachers and parents on student progress
Provide professional development to faculty as needed
Attend parent-teacher conferences as needed and write grade report comments for students receiving support
Participate in middle school activities, community events, and assist with duties as assigned
Teach one middle school class - most likely math at the pre-algebra level
Coordinate ERB testing
The successful candidate must:
Share a deep passion for working with both middle grade learners and students with learning differences
Possess an excellent background in working with neurodiverse students, coaching executive functioning skills, and supporting individual student needs
Work collaboratively with our middle school leadership and faculty to implement the LCDS curriculum
Be comfortable using technology and incorporating it into teaching
Attend planning and faculty meetings and school provided professional development
Play an active role in the life of the middle school

Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education or a related field (advanced degree preferred but not required)
An appreciation for the unique qualities of middle school aged students
A willingness to employ differentiated instruction to meet learners at their level of need
Thorough understanding of learning differences and best practices for instructing neurodiverse students
Strong knowledge of middle curriculum and teaching strategies
