Oakwood School in Northern Virginia is now accepting applications for a Part-Time Art Teacher with appropriate training to serve Elementary to Middle School students with learning disabilities.
The Oakwood School Art Teacher instructs students in appreciating a variety of art, developing skills and techniques using various mediums, expressing themselves through art, and encouraging creativity. Integrating the arts into other areas of the curriculum is a crucial goal in this position. Art is an important avenue for self-expression and building self-esteem, as well as understanding one’s self as a learner.
An appropriate candidate will develop and implement a comprehensive art curriculum for elementary through middle school-aged students with learning disabilities that ties into the overall school curriculum and philosophy, adapt activities and lessons to accommodate the wide range of skill sets and abilities of the students, and provide feedback to classroom teachers about student performance and needs as part of the teaching team.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Creation & implementation of a year-long curriculum for students in grades 1st-8th.
Adapt activities & lessons to accommodate a wide range of skill sets/student abilities.
Support classroom teachers in the integration of the arts into other areas of the curriculum.
Provide regular feedback to classroom teachers about student performance and needs.
Support school schedule & operation as needed with activity coverage (lunch, arrival duty, etc)
Preferred Qualifications: Virginia Teacher Licensure with certification in Art or related field; 2-3 years teaching art in a school setting
Required Qualifications: Eligibility for VA Teacher licensure with certification in Art or related field; 2-3 years teaching art to school-aged children
