Norfolk Collegiate School is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time lower school teaching position. A bachelor’s degree in elementary education is required; K-5 teaching certification and/or a master’s degree is preferred. Ideal candidates will have teaching experience in a lower school setting, keen insight into elementary-aged children, and comprehensive knowledge of the intellectual, social, emotional and physical developmental needs of five to eleven year olds. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to create a student-centered classroom environment and positive learning experience, differentiate curriculum to meet the needs of students, and foster intellectual curiosity and critical thinking skills. We seek teachers who are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about teaching lower school students. Candidates should have a demonstrated interest in working with students from a variety of backgrounds who possess a range of abilities and learning styles. This position requires collaborative work with others; therefore, this individual must be able to work effectively with colleagues and parents. Norfolk Collegiate is an independent, co-educational pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 school in Norfolk, Virginia. For more than 70 years, we have been developing critical thinkers, doers and explorers through innovative, engaging instruction in an inclusive and supportive learning community.
Our school is comprised of nearly 600 students and 100 faculty and staff on two campuses nearly three miles apart and within 10 minutes of downtown Norfolk. The middle (Grades 6-8) and upper school (Grades 9-12) are located on Granby Street. The lower school (pre-K-Grade 5) is located on Tidewater Drive.
