Collegiate School seeks an energetic and committed part-time Upper School Learning Specialist to work closely with the Chair of Academic Service, faculty and administration of the division to support students with identified learning differences. This is a part-time,10-month, non-benefited faculty position.
General responsibilities will include:
Monitor the progress of assigned students receiving support from Academic Services and proactively communicate important updates regarding the student.
Meet with students and parents to discuss accommodations that a student will receive.
Work with students individually and in small groups to improve specific academic skills in reading, writing, and math.
Teach students to use active learning strategies to practice and review class content for assessments.
Teach and consistently review executive functioning skills, such as organization of notes and materials, time management, organization of assignments and planning for assessments and assignments
Meet with parents and teachers to discuss diagnoses, accommodations, support, and plans to help students grow.
Work collaboratively with grade level teachers to provide coaching and support for differentiation in the classroom.
Initiate and participate in transition meetings with Middle School Academic Services for rising 9th grade students.
Work with colleagues to develop professional development programs that support learner variability.
Serve as a member of the Upper School Student Support Team (SST).
Other duties as assigned by Chair of Academic Services and the Upper School Head.
Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications and competencies:
A Master's degree in Special Education/Learning Disabilities, or a related field, and a minimum of three years of experience working in a classroom setting with children with academic needs.
Experience in assessing and teaching children with learning differences.
Significant knowledge of learning disabilities, the ability to interpret results of cognitive achievement, and learning disability diagnostic tests.
Ability to develop strong rapport with students.
Interpersonal skills for communicating effectively with and supporting all members of the Collegiate community, including students, parents, faculty and staff.
Enthusiasm for professional growth.
Ability to maintain accurate records and confidentiality.
Proven cross cultural competency skills demonstrating self-awareness, awareness of others and the ability to adopt inclusive perspectives, attitudes and behaviors to drive inclusion and belonging in the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community.
Demonstrated interest in working with teenagers and in valuing diversity.
