St. Anne’s-Belfield School seeks a full-time Middle School Academic and Learning Support Specialist who is committed to inspiring and educating faculty on effective classroom strategies that support academic diversity and working directly with students to build their competence and confidence as learners. The Academic and Learning Support Specialist will interpret the results of psychoeducational evaluations for parents, faculty, and students in order to implement appropriate accommodations and modifications based on findings, engage faculty in the latest research about differentiation and academic diversity, and provide targeted support to students. Additionally, the Middle School Academic and Learning Support Specialist will serve on the middle school student support team and the all-school support services team.
Qualified candidates will be equipped to provide both push-in student support during class as well as individual and small group support beyond class so that students progress toward mastery of academic content and skills while developing the strategies and habits they need to be empowered lifelong learners. The ideal candidate will be an energetic and proactive individual looking to form impactful relationships with students, communicate closely with families, collaborate with faculty, and lead a program in a deeply engaged and dynamic academic community.
Candidates should possess the following expertise and experience:
A firm belief in the concept of a growth mindset and an integrated approach to education.
Interest in inspiring resilience, optimism, and social-emotional well-being in middle school students.
A desire to work in a highly collaborative professional context with humility and a sense of humor.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, and exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and facilitation skills.
Working knowledge of current educational research, intervention strategies, and assistive technologies.
Ability to interpret and translate data from psychoeducational testing instruments, and a comprehensive understanding of differentiated instructional strategies across subject areas.
Experience developing and implementing effective techniques for time management, organization, and assessment preparation for students in grades 5-8.
Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or another related field.
