The teacher is the core of the school providing enticing individualized lessons, charting data, participating in meaningful student meetings, and providing information to develop IEP’s/IAP’s. They must be energetic, flexible, organized, and possess a willingness to help all students succeed academically, physically, and socially by planning, delivering and evaluating instruction based on the curriculum and individual needs of the student.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and delivers differentiated daily lesson plans based on individual needs and learning styles; have readily available.
- Observe and evaluate student performance in academics and social skill development.
- Incorporate the use of technology as appropriate, in the learning process.
- Keep data documentation as required by student IEP/IAP and provide it at data collection meetings.
- Communicate regularly with constituent groups in a professional manner.
- Maintain confidentiality and keep appropriate documentation of family contacts.
- Complete grades and comments for interim reports and report cards adhering to the required timeline.
- Provide meaningful information to assist with developing IEP/IAPs including annual and short term goals.
- Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
- Collaborates with other faculty in planning and delivering instruction to students.
- Teachers will be assigned a daily advisory in which social skills will be taught.
- Each teacher will attend a minimum of 5 extracurricular activities per school year.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Assistant Head.
Term: 10 Month Position Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Qualifications:
Requires general knowledge of the academic curriculum for assigned classes. Computer skills essential to position including word processing, knowledge of Google Suite, data management, etc. Demonstrated ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning.
Requirements:
College Degree in English or Special Education
Must hold a Valid Virginia Teaching License
Experience:
Prefer at least 1 year teaching experience with students with disabilities
Successful student teaching experience accepted in place of prior teaching experience
