We seek candidates who share this commitment.We are seeking a dynamic educator to assume the position of Assistant First Grade Teacher beginning in late August 2019. Assistant Teachers support lead teachers in implementing the curriculum. Assistant Teachers teach whole group, small group, and individual students. The successful candidate will possess facility and capacity with phonics instruction, the reading and writing workshop model, and mathematical exploration and problem-solving.
Candidates should be flexible, patient, and nurturing and collaborative. Candidates should possess a comfort level with integrating technology in the classroom and a passion for learning and growth. This is a wonderful opportunity to work closely with an experienced teacher and to hone one's pedagogical skills in a supportive environment. The ideal candidates will have degree in Elementary Education or the equivalent. The Assistant Teacher is required to exercise professional judgment and responsibility in keeping with the expectations of the School's faculty.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the lead teacher on instruction and differentiation for individual students and small groups.
- Teach whole group, small group, or individual students as requested by the lead teacher.
- Anticipate and support student needs.
- Provide a safe and stimulating environment that facilitates learning.
- Manage classroom behavior through the Responsive Classroom approach.
- Support student transitions to classes across the campus.
- Respond promptly to communication from colleagues.
- Actively participate in daily classroom activities including supervision of students during lunch and recess.
- Prepare classroom materials as requested by the classroom teacher.
- Collaborate with grade-level team to enhance teaching and learning.
- Attend and participate in monthly faculty meetings and meetings of any committees joined.
- Assume lead responsibilities in the classroom if classroom teacher is absent or off-campus.
The School accepts candidates with the following minimal qualifications:
(1) Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or another relevant field; advanced degrees are strongly encouraged; state certification is not required.
(2) A strong commitment to educating a diverse student body within a caring and creative environment.
(3) Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
(4) Previous teaching experience in an early elementary classroom.
(5) Strong references who confirm the applicant's ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
