Position Summary:
St. Christopher’s School, the largest all-boys school in Virginia and one of the largest and oldest boys’ schools in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeks a creative and flexible teacher for its Extended Day Program, a unique after-school opportunity for students to explore enriching academic, artistic, and athletic experiences.
Serving approximately 970 boys in Grades JK-12 in Richmond, Virginia, St. Christopher’s School is committed to cultivating a school community that is diverse, inclusive, and welcoming and prides itself on bringing out the best in every boy. The Extended Day program serves St. Christopher’s and St. Catherine’s students from both the lower and middle schools by providing an extensive, year-round after-school program in a safe and familiar setting on the St. Christopher’s campus.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Create and implement co-curricular lessons that foster student growth in academic, social, and emotional areas.
- Organize enrichment opportunities that include arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games, cooking, and STEM activities.
- Facilitate study halls, provide academic support, and reinforce time management and study skills.
- Actively monitor student behavior and resolve disciplinary matters.
- Provide parents with professional, timely, and effective communication in written and oral form about the program, student progress, and the calendar and schedule.
- Support the Summer Saints program for several weeks during the summer.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Extended Day team members, Summer Saints team members, and Lower School and Middle School teachers.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development training.
Qualifications and Key Skills:
- A commitment to best practices in education, as articulated in the School’s Teaching Excellence Document, and a dedication to best practices for boys, as espoused by the St. Christopher’s Center for the Study of Boys.
- A clear commitment to diversity, community, and inclusion in school communities, as expressed in the St. Christopher's Diversity and Inclusion Statement.
- A bachelor’s degree or an associate degree with experience in education preferred.
- A minimum of three years experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Personal traits and communication style that nurture the growth of children.
- Passion and joy for working with young people and an enthusiasm for learning.
- Creative and flexible mindset and a solid work ethic.
- Works cooperatively with adults and has a strong ability to multitask.
- Comfort with using technology daily and a willingness to learn and navigate specific platforms.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally required to work in poor weather conditions such as temperature, precipitation, and wind during recess and carpool duty.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Additional Information:
St. Christopher’s School is offering a $1,000 taxable signing bonus for Extended Day employees for the 2022-2023 school year. In the event the employee leaves the School prior to June 30, 2023, he/she/they will be responsible for reimbursing the School for the entire signing bonus.
