St. Michael's School, a vibrant K-8 independent school, is looking for a Third Grade Lead Teacher beginning in August 2021. We are seeking individuals from independent, public, private, or charter schools with prior experience in and a passion for teaching lower school students. A minimum of a college bachelor’s degree is required; however, a master’s degree is preferred. It is expected that a successful candidate will: - Support the school’s educational mission by challenging, engaging, and nurturing students
- Demonstrate an understanding of student-centered, interdisciplinary, and differentiated learning
- Have familiarity implementing a variety of assessment practices
- Proficient in Readers and Writers Workshop
- Have experience with teaching verbal reasoning and analytical thinking
- Communicate effectively, both with students, parents and colleagues
- Create lessons and projects that are inclusive of a diverse and multicultural world
- Perform additional duties and participate in the life of the school
- Maintain regular communication and contact with parents, including regular digital newsletters.
- Assess students regularly through unit assessments, reading assessments, projects, and classwork.
Required Qualifications - Appreciation for and desire to work with K-4th grade students
- An authentic love of helping students excel in their learning
- Knowledge of the essential role social-emotional literacy plays in the workplace and interest in application of SEL within the educational setting
- Knowledge of identity safe and anti-bias educational practices
- Ability to create an inclusive classroom community that allows for a multitude of perspectives to be heard and respected
- Ability to take initiative, work passionately and joyfully, and collaborate effectively with diverse constituencies
- Willingness to be a team player, show initiative, and take on leadership roles as needed
- A passionate commitment to creating an innovative, joyful environment for students
- Bachelor of Arts or Science degree and/or professional coursework or certification, indicating training applicable to the responsibilities of the position
