The Langley School, a preschool through eighth grade coeducational day school in McLean, VA, seeks a collaborative, passionate, experienced, child-centered educator to serve as the director of academic resource. This role supports students’ academic development through partnerships with many school constituencies. It also supports faculty professional development as teachers seek to meet the needs of all of our students. At Langley, we know the academic and social-emotional development of students is intertwined; the director of academic resource will work with students, families, teachers, and administrators across these very connected domains.
As a member of Langley's Academic Leadership Team, the director of academic resource reports to the director of curriculum and instruction. This position will contribute significantly to achieving goals of the school’s strategic plan. This is a full-time, 11-month position beginning August 1, 2021.
More specifically the director will:
Oversee the work of the Academic Resource Department, including supervising our learning, math, and reading specialists
Partner with division heads, director of social and emotional learning, and director of curriculum and instruction to ensure divisional practices support the growth of all students
Coordinate all aspects of psychoeducational testing
Coordinate benchmark assessments and standardized testing administration
Partner with division heads, department members, teachers, and the director of curriculum and instruction to analyze student data and implement instructional support
Lead divisional Academic Resource Department meetings
Coordinate our Middle School academic FLEX program and teach small groups of students with learning differences within the program
Work with Middle School students with learning or executive functioning challenges
Support teachers as they strive to meet the needs of their students through coaching, professional development, and team-level collaboration
Support high school outplacement work by consulting with families of students with learning differences on life after Langley as well as helping eighth-grade students prepare for high school interviews
Support eighth-grade families with SSAT and HSPT (High School Placement Test) accommodations for outplacement
Support the onboarding of new faculty
Partner with fifth- and sixth-grade teachers around the teaching of executive functioning skills
Serve as a member of the Academic Leadership Team, Leadership Cohort Team, Instructional Task Force Committee, and other groups as assigned

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in education, three to five years of previous teaching and/or leadership experience preferred, excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfort with technology, interest in collaborating with colleagues, and a passion for working with children required.
