Commonwealth Academy, a 3-12 independent school in Alexandria, VA, is currently seeking a School Nurse for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year.
Major duties and responsibilities of the position are:
Provide professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates.
Administer medication to students in accordance with physician orders.
Support students with medical conditions and share appropriate action plans with families.
Maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians, teachers and other school personnel regarding the health and safety of needs of students.
Assist with the development and delivery of the school’s health curriculum.
Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues in accordance with federal and state privacy regulations.
Qualifications and Skills:
Current Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Nursing license to practice either as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
Up-to-date American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certifications
American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor preferred
Pediatric nursing experience required, 2 to 3 years working in a school setting preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and serve as part of a multi-disciplinary administrative team
Proficient with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite applications
Familiarity with electronic medical record document software
