Reporting to the Director of Development, the Annual Fund and Special Events Manager is responsible for the development, implementation and management of effective long-term development programs and fundraising. The role of the Annual Fund and Special Events Manager is to inspire and engage the NCS community to feel connected and involved with Norfolk Collegiate and to build, strengthen and maximize their goodwill and relationships for financial and volunteer support of the school. The Annual Fund is a multi-channel, multi-faceted fundraising campaign that requires face-to-face, telephone, e-mail and written asks for financial support. This position will also lead initiatives involving parent volunteers and logistics for three major events (Fall Fair/Homecoming, Auction, Golf Classic).
This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, creative thinking, an eagerness and willingness to engage our parent and volunteer community. This manager should demonstrate an ability to work both independently and as a team member, prioritize work and meet deadlines, while managing multiple tasks and maintaining a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to handle confidential material and situations with discretion and sensitivity. Annual Fund Responsibilities Include: • Develop and execute a communication plan and materials that engages, solicits and validates investments in faculty, facilities and students. • Work closely with the marketing department to design annual fund theme and marketing materials. • Together with the Director of Development and Alumni Relations Coordinator, identify, cultivate and steward annual fund donors throughout the year. • Organize and manage cultivation & solicitation events to support annual giving such as phonathons. • Recruit and train the Development Council to collaborate with the Board Development Committee and to lead constituent focused annual fund fundraising efforts. • Develop stories and fundraising pieces to invite support for the annual fund.
Special Events Responsibilities Include: • Achieve event revenue goals in a fiscally responsible manner. • Secure and maintain annual special events sponsorship program. • Take lead role on the three major special events, including Fall Fair, Auction and Golf Classic, while working closely with development team and parent volunteer committees to establish timelines, division of tasks, fundraising strategies, etc. • Assist in staffing event volunteer committees and assist in their fundraising efforts • Oversee all event solicitations and dissemination of all event emails & e-blasts; work closely with marketing department to ensure all invitations, website updates, e-blasts and press releases are created and completed in a timely fashion • Prepare ongoing event progress reports and event summaries • Acknowledge event donors, volunteers and participants in a timely manner • Work with development team to establish and assign roles for day of event logistics • Together with the Director of Development evaluate event results and determine future direction
Experience and Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree and three years of successful annual fund and special event management experience. • Will demonstrate knowledge of the principles and practices associated with fundraising in independent schools including direct mail, telephone and face-to-face solicitations, special events and donor relations. • Ability to articulate values, information, and compelling cases to multiple audiences, one-on-one and through formal presentations. • Excellent project and event management skills, including keen attention to detail. • Strong computer and analytical skills are required along with excellent writing skills. • Strong, collaborative, energetic individual with seasoned fundraising skills. • Raiser’s Edge experience a plus. • Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends.
