Norfolk Collegiate is seeking applicants for a Middle School Mathematics teaching position for the academic year 2017-2018. The teaching responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to a combination pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Geometry classes, though a background in higher levels of mathematics is preferred. An ability to teach computer science or middle school physical or life science is also a plus. Ideal candidates will have teaching experience in a upper/middle school setting, and a commitment to interdisciplinary approaches to learning. We seek teachers who are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about teaching young adults. They should have an established interest in working with students from a variety of backgrounds who possess a range of abilities and learning styles. The position requires collaborative work with other teachers and administrators. Norfolk Collegiate offers a close-knit, supportive environment and a collegial atmosphere.
The responsibilities of the Middle School Math Teacher include but are not limited to the following: • Develop, implement, and maintain authentic, hands-on and engaging math experiences that support the school’s math curriculum for grades seven through ten. • Work in partnership with faculty to integrate math activities with the school’s math curriculum and classroom science programs including across the curriculum integration of language arts, engineering, technology and science. • Collaborate with faculty members to develop an inquiry based and hands-on math curriculum that is aligned with Norfolk Collegiate’s standards and pedagogical philosophy. • Maintain close communications with families, including but not limited to phone calls, emails and conferences. • Participate and engage in professional activities and meetings at departmental, divisional, and school-wide levels. • Advise approximately 14-20 middle school students in both academic and life skills areas. • Demonstrate a willingness to coach one or more inter-scholastic sports.
Experience and Qualifications: • A bachelor’s degree in Mathematics is preferred. A degree in a Math related field is required. • Must demonstrate enthusiasm and effective interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community
