Green Hedges School seeks an experienced elementary and middle school math & science teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. Green Hedges is a private independent preschool through Grade 8 school with approximately 180 students in Vienna, Virginia, fourteen miles west of Washington, DC.
General Teaching Responsibilities: • Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction, which encourages students to be actively engaged in the scientific learning process, using Green Hedges’ Mission and Curriculum Overview as guides • Manage the math materials, science lab, equipment and resources • Coordinate STEM Department • Facilitate annual “STEM Week” and science fair • Assist grade-level teachers in the oversight of Grades 1 – 3 once-weekly lesson in the science lab • Create positive learning communities within the classroom that acknowledge and respect children’s social and emotional interactions and growth • Differentiate instruction to ensure optimal learning for all students • Coordinate scope and sequence of science curriculum • Build on an expanding knowledge of how children learn best through professional development • Integrate technology throughout math & science curriculum • Explore opportunities for science fairs in community • Share science news and experiences at assemblies • Facilitate math/science/technological connections • Work diligently and promptly to maintain positive and constructive home-school communication • Grade-level advisor and homeroom responsibilities • Participate in the overnight field trips • Conduct parent-teacher conferences • Use assessment and evaluation tools to guide instructional decisions; maintain accurate, up-to-date records and communicate results to students, parents and appropriate others in a timely manner with regard to student progress and performance • Manage resources effectively and meet deadlines and schedules set by the School • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and department meetings • Perform professional duties efficiently and as assigned by the Head of School or the Assistant Head of School. These duties include but are not limited to recess duty, lunch duty and dismissal duty • Teach 1 Pass/Fail elective (once a week for 1 trimester)
A successful candidate will have: Undergraduate degree (masters preferred) in education or a related field • Minimum of 2 - 5 years of related teaching experience. • A high level of energy • Good time management skills • Initiative • Collaborative skills • Successful candidates must successfully complete a required background check.
